A convergence of factors—declining water quality, loss of habitat, illegal black market poaching and increased natural predators—pose a significant challenge to the spotted turtle populations in Northeast Ohio. The Splash Fund underwrites specific expenses related to monitoring and boosting spotted turtles numbers in the wild.
CONSERVATION, EDUCATION + INSPIRATION
Since 2012, the Splash Fund has led beach cleanup efforts each summer. Over the years, we have hosted 31 events with 425 volunteers who collected nearly 1,400 pounds of trash and recyclables.
SPOTTED TURTLE PROTECTION
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife lists the spotted turtle as a threatened species that should be “vigorously protected” in the Buckeye State. We’re working with partners across Northeast Ohio to try to track and boost their numbers in the wild.
